Clan History
The clan is thought to come from French stock.
Various places in Anjou and Normandy have been cited
as possible sources for the name, most notably Fresles
and Freseliere, and it has even been suggested that they
are descended from an earlier Gaulish tribe, which had
a strawberry plant (fraisier)as its emblem.
Fraser Crest

Around 1160, Simon Fraser granted land to the Abbey
of Kelso.  Several of his descendants fought alongside
Robert de Bruce, in the struggle for independence.

Cairnbulg Castle

Originally called Philorth, the clan Fraser
acquired this doughty castle in 1375, when
Sir Alexander Fraser married Joanna, the
daughter of the 5th Earl of Ross.
